Group A: Argentina Uzbekistan Guatemala New Zealand The tournament opens up with a barn-burner as hosts Argentina will face a tough challenge in AFC U20 Asian Cup 2023 champions Uzbekistan. A six-time tournament winner Argentina did not qualify for the tournament but was only able to be in as hosts after Indonesia was removed as hosts due to not allowing Israel to play games in Bali. Guatemala will be making their second appearance in a U20 Men’s World Cup, and first since 2011, while New Zealand qualified as Oceania Champion. Advancing To Knockout Stages: Argentina and Uzbekistan Group B: USA Ecuador Fiji Slovakia Group B has the 2022 Concacaf Men’s U-20 Champion USA feeling good about their chances as they as they are placed along with CONMEBOL fourth place finisher Ecuador. Ecuador struggled at the end of qualifying before securing their birth with a victory over Paraguay. Fiji will have a new manager as Argentinian Rodolfo Zapata takes over at the helm. Zapata began his Head Coach of the USA Olympic Development Program in 2001–2002 and had been coaching at the club level in Africa for the past decade before taking the Fiji position. Slovakia qualified through a play-in game versus Austria. It is their second time they have qualified for the U-20 qualifying in 2003. Advancing To Knockout Stages: USA & Slovakia Group C: Senegal Japan Israel Colombia African Champion Senegal and European runner-up Israel headline a difficult and even group that is, from top to bottom, "The Group of Death". Israel is a surprise entry falling in extra-time to England in the UEFA final. Colombia enters finishing third in CONMEBOL while Japan qualifies as the #3 from Asia. Colombia was solid throughout qualifying playing to a scoreless draw in one of their games versus Brazil while also handing Argentina 1-0 loss. Advancing To Knockout Stages: Israel & Colombia Group D: Italy Brazil Nigeria Dominican Republic In one of the most difficult groups, CONMEBOL Champion Brazil and Italy, who fell to European Champion England in the European semi-finals, will face a tough challenge from CAF #3 Nigeria who is looking forward to the challenge. "Many people have described our group as tough, but I believe that will get us to be at our best right from the onset,” Super Eagles' coach Ladan Bosso said. As for the Dominican Republic, they will be making their U20 Men’s World Cup debut after finishing runner-up in Concacaf. Advancing To Knockout Stages: Brazil & Italy Group E: Uruguay Iraq England Tunisia UEFA Champion England, CONMEBOL Runner-Up Uruguay, AFC Runner-Up Iraq and Africa #3 Tunisia make up what appears to be a more difficult group than what would appear at first glance but both Uruguay and England are capable of winning the tournament. Advancing To Knockout Stages: Uruguay & England Group F: France Korea Republic The Gambia Honduras Group F may be the weakest group as France was upset by Israel in the UEFA semi-finals, Korea Republic finished fourth in AFC qualifying, The Gambia finished fourth in African qualifying while Honduras finished fourth in Concacaf qualifying. Honduras are competing in a U20 Men’s World Cup for a fourth straight time and ninth overall and could have a chance to surprise and advance to the knockout rounds.
