The first round of the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club delivered a mix of brilliance and frustration, as J.J. Spaun surged to the top of the leaderboard with a stunning bogey-free 66 (–4)—a rare feat at one of golf’s most punishing venues.

Spaun’s round was marked by pinpoint accuracy and clutch putting, including a chip-in birdie at the 10th hole. It was only the eighth bogey-free opening round in U.S. Open history, and tied the lowest first round score ever recorded at Oakmont.
