Gary Bettman is the commissioner of the National Hockey League (NHL), a position he has held since February 1, 1993. He is the longest-serving active commissioner in professional sports in North America. Under Bettman, the NHL has seen rapid growth of league revenues, from $400 million when he was hired to over $3 billion in 2010–11. He also oversaw the expansion of the NHL's footprint across the United States, with the addition of four teams in the Sun Belt and the relocation of four others. Bettman was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2018.
